Training Program Description
The objective of this course is to introduce the junior and middle management officials of the distribution utilities to various aspects of supply of electric power to the agriculture and rural sector, and importance of demand side management (DSM). The course will focus on tools, techniques, application, and pre- and post-implementation issues in adoption of various DSM measures applicable to rural sector.

  • Learning about implications of DSM as applied to rural sector with emphasis on agriculture pumping systems
  • Role, functions, and responsibilities of DSM cell
  • The inter-dependence of DSM and reliable and quality power supply
  • Learning about the tools, techniques, application, and implementation of various rural DSM measures
  • Water energy nexus – the vicious cycle of energy and water use in agriculture
  • Importance of irrigation techniques, such as, drip irrigation, and cropping pattern on implications of water availability and energy consumption
  • Selection of an agricultural pumping system for irrigation
  • The role of ESCos, consumer groups, NGOs in adopting DSM measures
  • Learning about pre-implementation issues, implementation issues, and post-implementation issues in DSM applications
  • Refreshing financial analysis tools and techniques
