Phase 2 of Workshops on ‘Regulatory & Policy Framework for Market Development for Renewable Energy (MDRE):
DRUM program had initiated MDRE activities under Asia-Pacific Partnership (APP) program. The workshops were held on 'Regulatory & Policy Framework for Market Development for Renewable Energy' with the objective to help the key stake holders understand the policy frameworks, financial structuring and risk management instruments germane to the sphere of Renewable Energy sector in India. The audiences were primarily from the State Electricity Regulatory Commissions, Power Distribution Utilities, Energy Development Agencies (EDA), Financial Institutions (FI) like PFC, REC, Equipment Manufacturers and Project Developers etc. 11th workshop of Phase 2 of ‘Regulatory & Policy Framework for Market Development for Renewable Energy (MDRE) Workshops’, is scheduled to be held in Bhopal from September 16 - 17, 2010.

The workshops were conducted for 400 participants in 8 sessions spread across length and breadth of country from July 2008 to January 2009 and were appreciated by MNRE, GoI; USAID; various institutes and participants. Ms. Gauri Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, GoI, said about the program - “Eight Capacity Building workshops arranged by PA consulting and WISE under APP program of USAID has laid the foundation for development of RE market”.
USAID has decided to roll-out 12 more workshops on above theme with same set of objectives as Phase 2 of the DRUM MDRE Workshop as a response to overarching demand for similar programs to create awareness about the potential of Renewable Energy and on the basis of feedbacks received continuously. These 12 programs shall be conducted for about 600 participants over the next 8 months in different states of India through our implementation partner, M/s WISE, Pune.
